<p>Add the three digits together: 4 (Month) + 9 (Day) + 5 (Year) = 18. Then, further, reduce the composite sum to a single digit (or leave it as a master number): 1 + 8 = 9. In our example, the <em>April</em><em> </em><em>27, 2003</em>, birthdate has a life path number of 9.<em></em></p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Back in 2007, I had one of those “wait a minute” moments while researching reincarnation. Was it just some far-out belief tied to certain religions, or could there be something more universal at play here? Flash forward to today, and now I’m solidly in the reincarnation-is-real camp. But I get it – whether you’re familiar with the idea or just dipping your toes in, it can feel like a big concept to wrap your head around. So, let’s take a journey into what reincarnation is all about and how it’s probably more relatable than you think.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Traditional Understanding of Reincarnation</strong></h3>



<p>Reincarnation is the idea that after our physical body dies, our soul decides it’s not quite done with this whole &#8220;life&#8221; thing, so it packs its bags and checks into a new body for another round. In many spiritual traditions, this cycle of life, death, and rebirth is all about growth, learning, and karma – kind of like going back to school every year, but with different teachers and classmates (and maybe a new hairstyle).</p>



<p>Some of the most well-known reincarnation philosophies come from Hinduism and Buddhism, where it’s believed that how you live one life influences your next. Mess up royally this time? No worries, you’ll just be back next time with some new lessons.</p>



<p>But here’s the thing: <strong>reincarnation isn’t just a &#8220;spiritual belief.&#8221;</strong> It’s a way to look at life that resonates with people from all kinds of backgrounds. Whether or not you’re a yogi or spiritual seeker, it raises some pretty interesting questions about what happens after we kick the bucket – and whether our soul is really done after one go. And that’s why it’s worth considering, even if you’re not planning on diving headfirst into past-life regression therapy just yet.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>A</strong> <strong>Metaphor for Life’s Cycles</strong></h3>



<p>Now, here’s where things get even more interesting – reincarnation isn’t just about hopping from one body to another like a cosmic game of musical chairs. It’s also about recognizing the cycles we go through within a single lifetime. We’re constantly evolving, experiencing &#8220;deaths&#8221; of old selves and &#8220;rebirths&#8221; into new ones as we navigate relationships, careers, and personal growth.</p>



<p>After my mom passed, it felt like living in two worlds. One where I was still &#8220;asleep&#8221; in a life with her, and the other where I had to &#8220;wake up&#8221; to life without her. It wasn’t just about the physical loss; it was a spiritual awakening. Letting go of the version of myself while she was in physicality made me more conscious of who I was as a spiritual being now that she was in Spirit. Her passing shook me from that &#8220;sleeping&#8221; state into an awakened version of myself. </p>



<p>We all have moments where we feel like completely different people compared to who we were a few years ago – or even last week. These changes can be subtle or life-altering, but each one marks the end of one phase and the start of another, just like reincarnation. The friends you’ve outgrown, the jobs you’ve left, the lessons you’ve learned – these are all part of the ongoing cycle of death and rebirth that shapes who you are today.</p>



<p>So, even if reincarnation as a literal concept seems out there, consider it as a metaphor for the many versions of yourself you’ve already lived. Every phase of your life adds a new chapter to the story of your soul. And while the people around you might change roles, they keep showing up, helping you grow, and pushing you toward new &#8220;rebirths.&#8221;</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Soul Groups and the Continuity of Life</strong></h3>



<p>Let’s get into the heart of one of my favorite concepts: soul groups. These are the people who seem to follow you through lifetimes, like a spiritual entourage, but the roles keep changing. One lifetime they’re your mother, the next they might be your best friend – or even that frustrating co-worker who just doesn’t get it. The thing is, the connections are deep, and they’re all part of this beautiful continuity of life.</p>



<p>For me, one was my mom. She used to call me “Sister Sarah,” and sometimes just Sarah, even though my name is Brandi. I asked her at one point, &#8221; Why?&#8221; and she wasn&#8217;t sure. I always wondered why and thought maybe we had been (relational) sisters in another life. Then, after an astrological reading, I found out we might have been nuns together. I hadn&#8217;t thought of that! Could it be both? I like to think reincarnation leaves plenty of room for stories like this to exist at the same time.</p>



<p>This idea of reincarnating with the same souls isn’t just about spiritual nostalgia – it’s about growth. The people in our lives, whether they’re lifting us up or challenging us, are part of our soul group’s master plan. We’re all here to help each other evolve, lifetime after lifetime. It’s like a cosmic dance, where we keep switching partners, but the music never really ends.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Galactic Heritage and Species Continuity</strong></h3>



<p>Now, let’s zoom out – way out. If we’re going to talk about reincarnation, we can’t ignore our galactic heritage. You’ve probably heard the phrase “we’re all made of stardust.” Well, turns out, that’s not just a poetic way to make you feel connected to the cosmos – it’s kind of literal.</p>



<p>Many of us have lived on other planets, in other realms. Our souls may have traveled across galaxies, living out different experiences on different worlds, but one thing stays the same: we incarnate within the same species. I won’t be a human in one life and a golden retriever in the next. As much as I love dogs, reincarnation seems to stick to the rule of keeping souls in their species lane.</p>



<p>We’re spiritual beings having a human experience, yes, but our journey may extend far beyond Earth. Our galactic heritage means that we’ve carried the essence of who we are from one star system to another, learning different lessons along the way. It’s like we’re part of an intergalactic family reunion that spans across lifetimes and planets – bringing everything we’ve learned back to each new life, each new chapter.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>A Powerful Tool for Growth</strong></h3>



<p>Okay, so by now, you might be wondering: &#8220;Cool story, but what does this whole reincarnation thing have to do with my day-to-day life?&#8221;</p>



<p>Well, here’s the good news: reincarnation isn’t just about pondering your cosmic past or wondering if your neighbor was once your best friend from Ancient Egypt. It’s also a powerful tool for personal growth. Whether or not you fully believe in former lives, the idea of reincarnation offers an amazing framework for reflecting on who you are now and who you’re becoming.</p>



<p>Think about it – if every life (or every &#8220;rebirth&#8221; within this life) is an opportunity to grow, then reincarnation can be a reminder that we always have the chance to learn, evolve, and improve. And the beauty of it? Even if you’ve made mistakes (because let’s face it, we all have), the lessons you learn from them don’t go to waste. They carry forward into the next chapter, helping you become a wiser, more intentional version of yourself.</p>



<p>In a way, reincarnation challenges you to look at life not as a series of fixed events but as a cycle of opportunities. Every ending leads to a new beginning, and every beginning brings with it the chance to make different choices, to see things from a new perspective, and to do things differently. It&#8217;s the ultimate reminder that nothing is truly permanent – and that’s a freeing thought when you really get into it.</p>



<p>So whether you’re exploring your soul’s galactic past or just looking for a way to make sense of life’s constant twists and turns, reincarnation is there to remind you that growth is always possible. We’re never really “done” with this journey, and that’s what makes it so exciting. We get to keep evolving, lifetime after lifetime – or, for those who don’t believe in past lives, phase after phase.</p>

<p>Now, here’s where things get really fun – did you know there are clues to your past lives hiding in plain sight? The things you love, are good at, places you feel drawn to, even the weird quirks and phobias you’ve got going on – all of it can be a breadcrumb trail back to who you’ve been before.</p>



<p>Ever wonder why you’re obsessed with certain historical eras, countries, or cultures? Or why some places feel like home the minute you set foot there? That could be a clue from your former lives. And it doesn’t stop there. Even your choice of Halloween costume might have something to say about who you’ve been. Some of my favorite costumes? A witch, a Greek goddess, a Roman warrior (à la Xena), and even a gypsy. I’ve also been a devil, so&#8230; maybe not all costumes speak to former lives. But hey, who’s counting? These choices might be clues about the different roles my soul has played before. Maybe that Roman warrior costume wasn’t just for fun – perhaps it was a throwback to a life spent in battle.</p>



<p>The idea is that everything we’ve ever been is recorded in our Akashic Records (which is like the cosmic library that holds all the data on our soul’s journey). And while we don’t always consciously remember our former lives, the clues show up in our strengths, weaknesses, fears, and even in the stuff we’re drawn to. That irrational fear of water? Maybe you had a bad experience on the Titanic or drowned. Your love of ancient architecture? Maybe you helped build pyramids back in the day. For me, it was snakes. I had a major phobia of them, and after a session with a mystic, I found out why. I was told I was killed by an asp (actually several of them) in a former life, and the trauma from that filtered over into other lives – including this one. What’s even more fascinating is that I was told I used to work closely with serpents in that lifetime. Go figure, right? It’s wild how these things carry over.</p>



<p>But the best part? These clues aren’t just for fun (although they are pretty entertaining to think about). They can also help you understand yourself better, figure out your soul’s strengths, and maybe even shed light on the things you’re here to work on in this lifetime. It’s like a spiritual scavenger hunt – one where the clues are already inside you, just waiting to be discovered.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Numbers Don’t Lie: </strong>How Numerology Fits In</h3>

And then, your Expression Number tells you where you&#8217;re going and what you&#8217;re to do with all that talent. You don’t need an altar, a specific spiritual belief, or even a lot of time. Meditation is for everyone. Yep, even the busy, the skeptical, and the “I don’t have time for this” folks. In this article, I’m going to break down some of the biggest misconceptions about meditation and show you how easy (and flexible!) it can really be.</p>



<p>Let’s bust some myths, shall we?</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Myth #1: </strong>You Need a Sacred Altar to Meditate</h3>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><em>Nope! Your Couch Will Do Just Fine</em></h4>



<p>If the idea of setting up a meditation altar sounds about as achievable as scaling Mount Everest, I’ve got good news: You can meditate <em>literally</em> anywhere. Your couch? Perfect. The driver’s seat of your car (while parked, of course)? Sure thing. Meditation isn’t about where you sit; it’s about taking a moment to tune in and just be. No need for candles, incense, or sacred statues unless that’s your thing. Your focus is the real magic, not the furniture.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Myth #2: </strong>You Have to Meditate at the Same Time Every Day</h3>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><em>Forget the Schedule &#8211; Spirit Doesn’t Keep Office Hours</em></h4>



<p>At one point, I was told that it was important to meditate at the same time every day. And like a good student of mindfulness, I did that. But here’s the thing: I found that when the connection is real, when it’s genuine, Spirit doesn’t care what time it is. Whether it’s early morning or late at night, that divine energy is always there, ready to meet you whenever you choose to tune in.</p>



<p>So, if you’re stressing about finding the “right” time for meditation &#8211; stop. There’s no right or wrong time. The best time is whenever you feel called to connect. Spirit’s always on, so don’t worry about showing up late!</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Myth #3: </strong>Meditation Means Having Deep Insights Every Time</h3>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><em>Overthinking? Yeah, Me Too</em></h4>



<p>I’ll admit I’m an overthinker. For the longest time, I’d worry about the insights or visions I received during meditation. Were they really coming from Spirit, or was it just me making things up? It got to the point where I kept a journal to track everything that came through during my meditation sessions &#8211; to figure out if it was &#8220;real.&#8221;</p>



<p>And guess what? Sometimes nothing came. I’d sit there, waiting for some profound moment, and… crickets. But that’s perfectly okay too. Meditation isn’t about always receiving some grand message. Sometimes it’s just about being still, and that’s where the magic happens.</p>



<p>So, if you’re like me, overthinking every little thing &#8211; know that it’s okay to have quiet moments in your practice. Spirit will still speak, even in the silence.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Myth #4: </strong>You Have to Start Meditating Right Now (Or Yesterday!)</h3>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><em>Start When You’re Ready. Period.</em></h4>



<p>At the end of the day, I learned that no amount of advice or guidance could make me meditate until I was truly ready. And that’s what I want to pass on to you. You’ll start when you’re ready. No need to rush, no need to force it. Meditation will find you when it’s time, and when it does, it’ll be just right for <em>you</em> &#8211; not according to anyone else’s rules.</p>



<p>So, take this as your permission slip to meditate, however, whenever and wherever feels best. Whether it’s on your couch, during a lunch break, or while you’re in a creative flow, it’s all valid. The goal is to connect &#8211; with yourself, with Spirit, with something bigger. That’s all that matters.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Myth #5: </strong>You Must Have the “Right” Accessories</h3>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><em>No Crystals, No Problem</em></h4>



<p>I’ll let you in on a secret: I used to have a dedicated meditation altar. It had crystals, candles, the whole deal. But after a while, it felt more like something I <em>had</em> to do rather than something I <em>wanted</em> to do. I’d skip a day, feel bad, and then think I wasn’t doing it “right.” Sound familiar?</p>



<p>Then one day, I let go of the idea that meditation had to look a certain way. I stopped worrying about sitting in a particular place or lighting the perfect incense. And you know what? I realized I’d been meditating all along. Whether having a deep conversation with Spirit, being creative in painting mandalas, or even just daydreaming, I was still connecting with something bigger than myself. That’s what meditation is <em>really</em> about &#8211; finding your flow, <em>your</em> way.</p>



<p>So, if you don’t have crystals or candles, don’t worry. Meditation is about your connection, not the accessories.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Myth #6: </strong>You Have to Be &#8220;Spiritual&#8221; to Meditate</h3>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><em>Prayer, Peace, and Presence &#8211; No Labels Required</em></h4>



<p>There’s a common belief that meditation is only for people who identify as spiritual or metaphysical. But here’s the truth: Meditation is for <em>everyone</em>. Whether you’re religious, non-religious, spiritual, or just trying to find a little peace in a busy life, meditation doesn’t ask for labels. It’s simply a practice of quieting the mind and tuning in however that looks for you.</p>



<p>So, whether you’re following a specific religious path or not, you can meditate. Think of it as a tool that’s available to everyone, no strings attached. It’s about finding a moment of peace, not subscribing to a belief system.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Tips for Starting </strong>Your Meditation Practice</h3>



<p>If you’re ready to give meditation a try (or try again), here are a few simple tips to help you get started:</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Start Small</strong> &#8211; You don’t need to commit to 30 minutes right away. Try 5 minutes of just sitting quietly. It’s more about consistency than length.</li>



<li><strong>Don’t Worry About “Clearing Your Mind”</strong> &#8211; Meditation isn’t about silencing every thought (good luck with that!). Instead, let your thoughts flow, acknowledge them, and gently bring your focus back to your breath or a mantra.</li>



<li><strong>Use Everyday Moments</strong> &#8211; Meditation doesn’t always need to happen on a cushion. You can meditate while walking, cooking, or even sipping your morning coffee. Just focus on being present in the moment.</li>



<li><strong>Be Kind to Yourself</strong> &#8211; Some days, meditation will feel easy. Other days, it might feel like a struggle. Both are okay. Remember, it’s a practice, not a performance.</li>



<li><strong>Experiment with Styles</strong> &#8211; Try different meditation techniques- guided, mindfulness, breath-focused, or even creative visualization. There’s no one-size-fits-all, so find what works for you.</li>
</ul>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Bottom Line</strong></h3>



<p>Remember, meditation is about finding a moment to connect, however that looks for you. Whether you sit in silence, move through your day mindfully, or chat with Spirit in your own way, it all counts. So, go easy on yourself, and trust that whenever you’re ready, meditation will be there to meet you exactly where you are.</p>

<p>Welcome to the world of &#8220;Message Medicine&#8221; – a space where Spirit speaks to us through the ordinary details of life. Medicine makes us feel better, right? Well, the same goes for message medicine. It can soothe our souls and guide us toward greater well-being. This article explores how synchronicities, numbers, and the natural world around us hold profound guidance.</p>



<p>By tuning into this universal conversation, we open ourselves to spiritual insights and personal growth that go beyond the everyday, leading us down a more enlightened path. Let’s dive into the mystical and uncover the messages waiting for us in the most unexpected places.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Power of Synchronicity</strong></h3>



<p>Swiss psychologist Carl Jung said synchronicity is &#8220;meaningful coincidences&#8221; that seem to happen by chance but carry deeper significance. This concept suggests that the universe communicates with us in a weird yet wonderful way. <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Number Medicine</strong></h3>



<p>This is how Spirit communicates through numerology, often referred to as Angel numbers. Each number carries unique energy and guidance, so when certain numbers show up in your life, it’s Spirit’s way of nudging you to pay attention to their deeper meaning. Angel numbers can appear in all sorts of combinations, not just the repeating ones we often hear about; a classic example being 1111, which many recognize as a call to embrace a more spiritual outlook on life.</p>

Both are great resources to use <em>with </em>your intuition to shed light on things.</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><em>Personal Example: 9 and 1</em></h4>



<p>I’ve noticed different combinations of 9 and 1 showing up for a while now. As a numerologist, I receive many messages through numbers, but the persistence of 9 and 1 has really caught my attention. They mostly appear on the clock at 9:11, 9:10, or 9:01, but also appear in addresses and license plates that cross my path. A few years ago, I took the leap to start my own business as a spiritual life coach and numerologist dedicated to helping others enhance their personal and spiritual growth. While waiting for that to fully take off, I still work as a virtual assistant for mental health counselors as a “day job.”</p>



<p>The constant appearance of 9 and 1 feels like a gentle reminder from Spirit that this transition is ongoing, preparing me for a new beginning. According to Fairchild’s book, my personal development is going through an “upgrade,” urging me to nurture what I want to thrive in my life. Maybe I keep seeing these numbers because I’m still working on fully embracing this new chapter. They’re definitely a sign that I’m on the right path, even if it’s taking longer than I expected.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Animal Medicine</strong></h3>



<p>This is the practice of recognizing and interpreting the spiritual messages that animals bring into our lives, often through unexpected encounters or persistent appearances. These creatures act as guides, offering wisdom and insight tailored to our personal journeys.</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><em>Personal Example:&nbsp; Sharks</em></h4>



<p>The shark swam into my life in the most unexpected way: through a string of TV promos for shark-themed shows and movies that kept catching my eye, one after the other. It was a bit surprising, really, because sharks were never creatures I felt particularly drawn to. But suddenly, I found myself captivated, so much so that I insisted to my husband that we had to go see them at the aquarium. In a beautiful twist of synchronicity, we unknowingly planned our visit during “shark week,” making the experience even more special and meaningful.</p>



<p>The sharks brought me a powerful message of personal strength and confidence, urging me to stay focused on my goals and face whatever was holding me back with courage. After our visit, I took a moment to express my gratitude for their guidance, and just like that, they gracefully exited my life. Now, whenever I find myself at a crossroads, trying to decide which way to go, I remember their message: stay focused and keep moving forward, no matter what.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Song Medicine</strong></h3>



<p>This is the way Spirit communicates through music, using lyrics, melodies, and the timing of a song to deliver messages that resonate deeply with our souls. These songs often appear just when we need them most, offering comfort, guidance, or a nudge in the right direction.</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><em>Personal Examples: “Sara Smile” and “Turn Me Loose”</em></h4>



<p>During our lengthy search for a new home, I kept hearing two songs that seemed to follow me everywhere: “Sara Smile” by Hall and Oates and “Turn Me Loose” by Loverboy. The process was frustrating – it took us about eight months to find the right place, and I was starting to lose hope. “Sara Smile” really caught my attention, not just because it was a song I wasn’t all that familiar with, but because my mom, who’s now in spirit, used to call me “Sister Sarah” even though my name is Brandi. So, it felt like, as that song played, that she was offering me reassurance, reminding me that everything would work out.</p>



<p>“Turn Me Loose” struck a chord for a different reason. Even though I was ready to move, I also felt a deep hesitation because we were leaving a generational family home that had been in my family for 50 years. The song was a bittersweet reminder from Spirit that it was time to let go and move forward, even if it wasn’t easy.</p>



<p>For those eight months, I heard these songs constantly – sometimes even back-to-back – whether driving in the car or shopping in stores. It was like they were following me, carrying messages from Spirit to keep me going. But, you know what? After we finally found our new home and settled in, the songs stopped playing as frequently. Now, when I do hear them, which is rare, I can’t help but smile. They remind me of the journey, the guidance, and the support I felt during that time.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Rule of 3</strong></h3>



<p>They say the third time’s the charm, and when it comes to &#8220;Message Medicine,&#8221; the number three packs a punch. It’s like the universe tapping you on the shoulder, saying, “Hey, pay attention!” When a sign or symbol shows up three times, it’s a clear message that there’s something important you need to acknowledge. In numerology, the 3 is a catalyst that changes things without changing itself. </p>



<p>This pattern of three is a key element in understanding how Spirit communicates, signaling those moments when the cosmos aligns to deliver a message just for you.</p>



<p>A perfect example of this happened to me a few years back. Within 18 hours, I received <strong>three</strong> butt dials from <strong>three</strong> different people – one of whom never calls me. While we all get butt dials from time to time, it caught my attention because of the rapid frequency.  This was the rule of three in full effect. What was I supposed to make of it? After some research and reflection, I realized it was a multifaceted message – a bit of congratulations and also a nod toward transition.</p>



<p>Whether it’s the same number sequence catching your eye, a specific animal crossing your path, or a symbol that keeps popping up, these moments of threes are like the universe saying, “Listen up!” They remind us that our lives are woven with threads of mystical guidance just waiting to be unraveled. By tuning into these signs, we start a deeper conversation with the universe, where we’re not just drifting along but are consciously connected to the spiritual messages around us.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Everyday Practices </strong>for Tuning into Message Medicine</h3>



<p>Incorporating a few simple practices into your daily routine can help you stay attuned to Spirit’s messages. These habits will deepen your connection and make recognizing and interpreting the guidance always available to you easier.</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Keep a Journal</strong>: Regularly jot down any synchronicities, dreams, or symbols that stand out to you. Over time, patterns may emerge that reveal deeper meanings or messages. A journal also helps you track your spiritual growth and the evolution of your connection with Spirit. I love rereading my old journals to remember how connected everything is.</li>
</ul>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Stay Curious and Open-Minded</strong>: Approach the world with a sense of curiosity. Instead of dismissing coincidences or unusual occurrences, explore them. Ask yourself what these experiences could mean and how they might relate to your current life situation. Remember, they’re happening for a reason, and they’re happening to YOU for a reason.</li>
</ul>

<li><strong>Trust Your Intuition</strong>: Pay attention to your gut feelings and inner knowing. Often, Spirit messages come through as intuitive hits or sudden insights. Trusting your intuition helps you discern the messages that are meant for you. Don’t overthink it.</li>

Every time you get a new medicine message, take note of it and write (or draw) out what it means, both from your intuition and research.</li>

When we view our environment and experiences as interconnected and meaningful, we open ourselves up to the profound guidance Spirit always offers.</p>



<p>Remember, what’s meant for you won’t pass you by. When a message is destined for you, it will find its way to you – no need to stress about missing it. You can’t. Spirit’s got your back and wouldn’t let that happen. But here’s the thing: you’ve got to stay open to receiving them because sometimes, they’re subtle and easy to overlook. Like Ferris Bueller wisely said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don&#8217;t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” Same with Spirit signs. Embrace message medicine, and let it enhance your journey in ways you never imagined.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>By the time I turned 30, I had &#8220;lost&#8221; all my best people – my mother, grandmother, grandfather, and aunt, who was like a second mom to me. As an only child, these losses hit even harder because they were some of my closest connections, the people who shaped my world. Each loss was a deep sadness, but it was my mom’s passing that truly changed everything. When my grandfather passed away when I was 7, I was too young to fully grasp the finality of it. The deaths of my aunt at 19 and my grandmother at 22 were heartbreaking, but they didn’t shake my world in the same way.</p>



<p>When I lost my mom at 29, though, it was different. As her only child, I felt her absence more intensely; it wasn’t just a loss; it was a turning point that changed the course of my life completely.</p>



<p>For years, I lived with the weight of that loss, wondering how to move forward when the person who had always been my anchor was no longer there. But as time passed, I began to see that the space she left behind, while never truly filled, allowed room for new and equally special people to enter my life.</p>



<p>In this article, I want to share what I’ve learned about finding gratitude in loss, even when that loss feels insurmountable. Whether you’ve lost a loved one, a relationship, or something else meaningful, I hope this perspective can help you navigate your own journey and find peace in the process.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Understanding Loss</strong></h3>



<p>Loss, in its simplest form, is the experience of being without something or someone that once played a significant role in your life. It’s the absence we feel when something or someone we cherish is no longer present, creating a void that can feel overwhelming. This void isn’t just physical; it can permeate our thoughts, emotions, and even our sense of identity.</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading">The Depth of Absence</h4>



<p>At its core, loss reminds us how intertwined we are with the people and things that shape our lives. When they’re no longer there, it’s natural to feel a sense of disorientation, as if a part of ourselves has gone missing, too. This feeling of “without” can manifest in different ways – sometimes as an aching emptiness, other times as a subtle, persistent longing. For some, it’s a sudden, sharp pain; for others, it’s a quiet, lingering sadness that ebbs and flows over time.</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading">The Emotional Spectrum of Grief</h4>



<p>The emotions that come with loss are as varied as the experiences of those who feel them. Sadness is often the most immediate and recognizable emotion, but loss can also stir up anger, confusion, and even guilt. Anger might arise from the unfairness of it all – <em>Why did this happen? Why now? Why them?</em> Confusion can stem from the struggle to make sense of the loss, to find meaning in something that feels so senseless. Guilt might surface, especially if there were unresolved issues or words left unsaid.</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Grief: A Nonlinear Journey</h4>



<p>I know from my own experience that grief can be a tumultuous journey. I found myself all over the place emotionally, often feeling like I was caught in a storm with absolutely no direction. When I read about the Kübler-Ross model’s five stages of grief – Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance – I expected to move through them in a linear fashion. But I discovered that these stages aren’t as neat and orderly as the model suggests. Instead, grief can feel like a continuous and vicious cycle, where you might revisit the same stages multiple times or experience several at once.</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading">No “Right” Way to Grieve</h4>



<p>It’s important to understand that these emotions are all natural responses to loss. There’s no “right” way to grieve and no timeline that dictates how or when we should feel certain emotions. The key is to allow ourselves to fully experience these feelings without judgment. Too often, we try to rush through grief, to push away the uncomfortable emotions in an attempt to return to normalcy. But grief isn’t something to be “fixed” or avoided; it’s a process that needs to be felt and acknowledged.</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Making Space for Healing</h4>



<p>By permitting ourselves to feel the full range of emotions that come with loss, we create space for healing. Through this process of honoring our grief, we can eventually find peace and, perhaps, even gratitude for our experiences. Understanding loss as a complex, multifaceted experience is the first step in navigating the journey toward healing.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8cfd93a778dc9d118e24a3e276ded2f6"><strong>The Red Light: Acknowledge the Sadness</strong></h3>



<p>When navigating the journey through grief, it can be helpful to think of it in terms of a traffic light: Red for stopping to acknowledge your feelings, Yellow for cautiously shifting your perspective, and Green for moving forward when you’re ready. Each stage is essential, and the Red Light &#8211; acknowledging the sadness – is where it all begins.</p>



<p>In the aftermath of loss, there’s often a strong impulse to push past the pain, to find a way to move forward as quickly as possible. We gotta get back to work or stay busy doing something, right?&nbsp; Well, not so fast. We live in a world that frequently emphasizes resilience and the importance of “getting over” things. However, there’s no bypassing the sadness when it comes to grief. It’s crucial to allow ourselves to feel the full weight of our loss because it’s through this process that genuine healing begins.</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Honoring the Pain</strong></h4>



<p>Acknowledging the sadness of loss is a vital part of the grieving process. Sadness isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s a natural response to losing something or someone meaningful. By allowing yourself to feel this sadness, you honor the value of what was lost and recognize its impact on your life.</p>



<p>Loss isn’t limited to death &#8211; it can also come from the end of significant relationships. For me, the loss of my first relationship, which ended in domestic violence, was compounded by my mom’s passing. I avoided the pain through destructive behaviors, but in time I learned that true healing required me to sit with the sadness and honor it.</p>



<p>Honoring your pain means expressing it in ways that feel right to you &#8211; whether through tears, writing, or quiet reflection. This sadness reflects the love and significance of what’s been lost, and by acknowledging it, you also acknowledge the importance of that connection.</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>No Need to Rush</strong></h4>



<p>Grief has its own timeline, and it’s different for everyone. Some days, you might feel like you’re making progress, only to find yourself back in the depths of sadness the next. This ebb and flow is a normal part of the grieving process. There’s no need to rush through it or feel pressured to “get over” your loss by a certain tim</p>



<p>It’s important to give yourself the grace and patience to grieve in your own way, at your own pace. Society often places expectations on how long we should grieve or how we should express our sorrow, but the truth is that grief is a deeply personal experience. It doesn’t follow a set path or adhere to a specific timeline. The only thing that matters is that you allow yourself the space to feel and process your emotions as they come.</p>



<p>Taking your time with this step isn’t about wallowing in sadness; it’s about giving yourself the room to heal fully. When you acknowledge your sadness and allow yourself to experience it <em>without</em> judgment, you’re laying the foundation for genuine healing. You’re giving yourself the chance to process your loss in a way that honors both your pain and the significance of what you’ve lost.</p>

<p>If acknowledging the sadness is the first step toward healing, then shifting your perspective is where the growth truly begins. This doesn’t mean minimizing your loss or pretending it didn’t happen. Instead, it’s about understanding that loss is part of life’s bigger picture – a part that, while painful, can also lead to new insights, growth, and even new beginnings.</p>

This isn’t to say that their departure is easy or that we should accept it without emotion. Instead, it’s about recognizing that loss is a natural part of the human experience.</p>



<p>Shifting your perspective means seeing loss not just as an end but as a <strong><em>transition</em></strong>. It’s a reminder that life is always moving and changing and that with every ending, there’s the potential for a new beginning.</p>



<p>This shift in perspective doesn’t happen overnight.</p>



<p>It takes time, reflection, and a willingness to see beyond the pain. But when you’re ready, it can open up new ways of understanding your loss and its place in your life.</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Finding Lessons in Loss</strong></h4>



<p>Loss often brings valuable lessons, even if they’re not immediately visible. Losing a loved one might teach you to cherish time with those still in your life, foster empathy for others grieving, or inspire you to live more fully in the present.</p>



<p>In my case, the end of my first relationship, though painful, revealed my strength and resilience. It helped me understand my boundaries, values, and capacity for healing. Similarly, after my mom’s passing, I found strength I didn’t know I had, opened myself to new connections, and grew more mindful of life’s impermanence.</p>



<p>These lessons aren’t always clear when pain is fresh, but by gently exploring them, you may discover that loss, while difficult, can be a catalyst for growth and change.</p>

Embracing loss doesn’t mean you’re happy about it or that the pain has vanished; instead, it’s about finding a sense of peace and even gratitude within the experience of loss. It’s about recognizing that, despite the pain, something valuable can be gained from it.</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Recognizing What Remains</strong></h4>



<p>When we lose someone or something significant, it’s easy to focus on the void left behind. But in doing so, we might overlook what remains. The memories, the love, and the ways those relationships or experiences have shaped us are still with us. They don’t disappear just because the physical presence is gone.</p>



<p>Take a moment to reflect on the enduring aspects of your relationship with what or who you’ve lost. What lessons did they teach you? How did they shape the person you’ve become? These are the gifts that loss can bring – the parts of those relationships or experiences that continue to live <em>within</em> you.</p>



<p>For example, after my mom passed on, I found that the values she instilled in me, the love she showed, and the memories we shared became even more significant. I see her smile when mothers and daughters enjoy spending time together or when a child is comforted by their mother’s touch. I hear her voice in the encouragement I offer others, echoing how she always knew just what to say to lift my spirits. These moments remind me that, even though she’s no longer physically here, she’s still very much a part of my life.</p>



<p>These things didn’t leave when she did; they became a part of my foundation, guiding me through the rest of my life. Recognizing what remains can be a powerful way to shift from feeling only the loss to also appreciating the lasting impact that person or experience has had on your life.</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Transforming Loss into Gratitude</strong></h4>



<p>Cultivating gratitude after a loss is gradual but can bring profound healing. Start by acknowledging the experiences you shared with your loved one or the lessons you learned from the situation. What did you gain from knowing them or going through that experience? How did it contribute to your personal growth?</p>



<p>One way to practice this is through reflection or journaling. Write down the things you’re grateful for – both the obvious and the subtle. It could be a specific memory, a quality you admired in them, or a lesson you learned through loss itself. Over time, you might find that these reflections help you transform your grief into a deeper appreciation for what it was and how it continues to shape who you are.</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Living with Open Hearts</strong></h4>



<p>Finally, embracing gratitude in loss invites us to live with more open hearts. Understanding that life is impermanent – that each goodbye is part of a larger, ongoing journey – can help us appreciate the present moment more fully. It reminds us to cherish the relationships and experiences we have now, knowing that they, too, are precious and fleeting.</p>



<p>Living with an open heart means allowing ourselves to be vulnerable, to love deeply, and to accept that with love often comes loss. It’s a willingness to engage with life fully, knowing that it will bring both joy and sorrow, connection and separation. But in that openness, we find a richness to life that makes every experience and relationship all the more valuable.</p>



<p>By embracing gratitude, we honor those we’ve lost, the lessons we’ve learned, and the growth we’ve experienced. We learn to hold space for the pain of loss and the beauty of what remains, understanding that both are integral parts of the human experience. In this way, embracing loss doesn’t close a chapter; it opens us up to a deeper, more meaningful journey.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Addressing Those Who Struggle</strong></h3>



<p>As comforting as it might be to embrace gratitude in the face of loss, I know that this might feel like an impossible task for some. The pain may still be too raw, the grief too overwhelming, to even consider the idea of finding peace or gratitude. If this is where you are right now, I want you to know it’s okay.</p>



<p>If you’re finding it difficult to shift your perspective or to see any light in the darkness, that’s completely understandable. Grief doesn’t follow a set path and cannot be rushed. The journey toward gratitude is deeply personal and unique to each of us. Just because someone else might have found their way through doesn’t mean you’re supposed to be there <em>yet</em>.</p>



<p>It’s important to honor where you are in your journey. If all you can do right now is get through the day, that’s enough. Embracing gratitude might feel far off, and that’s okay. Sometimes, the most important thing we can do is allow ourselves to feel what we’re feeling without pressure to move forward before we’re ready.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Bottom Line</strong></h3>



<p>Grief is a journey, one that takes us through a range of emotions and experiences. Like the traffic light metaphor, moving through grief involves stopping to acknowledge the sadness (Red Light), cautiously shifting our perspective (Yellow Light), and, when we’re ready, embracing gratitude (Green Light). Each stage is vital, and each is a step toward healing.</p>



<p>Remember, there’s no right or wrong way to navigate this journey. It’s deeply personal, and it unfolds at its own pace. Whether you’re just beginning to acknowledge your sadness or slowly finding your way to gratitude, know that your path is valid and your feelings are important.</p>



<p>As you continue this journey, I encourage you to be gentle with yourself. Healing is not about rushing to the finish line but about embracing each moment as it comes. Trust and believe that with time, patience, and compassion, you <em>will</em> find your way through.</p>

<p>While significant, it&#8217;s important to recognize that it&#8217;s not the sole numerological influence on your life.</p>

<p>There are different calculation methods, yet I prefer the <em>“3-Step Method,” </em>which reduces the month, day, and year of birth into three separate digits (or master numbers) and then adds them together.&nbsp;<em> </em>Let’s use the birthdate <em>February 17, 1960, </em>as an example.</p>

<li><strong>Day</strong>: 17 (1 + 7 = 8)</li>

<p>Add the three digits together: 2 (Month) + 8 (Day) + 7 (Year) = 17. Then, further, reduce the composite sum to a single digit (or leave it as a master number): 1 + 7 = 8. In our example, the <em>February</em><em> </em><em>17, 1960</em>, birthdate has a life path number of 8.<em></em></p>
